The Realities Of Working From Home

I spent a number of years working in Social Work but a sudden health problem made me look for a new way to earn a living so I entered the world of internet marketing and all that entails. Now this article is not about the latest craze or fad that is sweeping the web but about the realities of working from home and although from the surface it seems like the ideal situation there are a number of things that you need to consider before turning your living room into an office.

1. Dedication Level - I know that it is very easy to say that you will spend eight hours per day working on creating or promoting your product but you need to ask yourself if you will be able to do so. The internet is full of all sorts of information and entertainment which can quickly divert your attention from work to basically killing time. In the beginning I wrote out my complete schedule from the hours that I would work to exactly what I would do during specific time periods but what I failed to do is account for Facebook and Twitter time. Free games my butt do you have any idea what Bejeweled Blitz has cost me in terms of production. It is a constant battle to remain focused on the task at hand but if you do not do so you will find yourself filling out a Walmart application to pay the lighting bill.

2. Mental Health - So you have decided to turn your home into your office but the differences between the home office and an actual office is people. At a typical office job there are a number of people that you converse with on a daily basis but when you work from home people turn into phone calls and emails. Stare at a computer screen for a couple of weeks and than try to convince yourself that your not hearing things. It is essential that along with your Facebook and Twitter time that you give yourself time to get actual people contact. A quick coffee with a friend will save you a ton of money in shrink bills.

3. Physical Health - Working eight hours a day from your home computer will not give you the body of the next Mr or Miss Universe and more than likely you will resemble Homer Simpson. Problem seems to be that with your home office comes a built in kitchen that is accessible at anytime of the day. No need to walk to the park for lunch when the fridge and stove are right behind you. It would be a good idea to invest in some core muscle exercises or else instead of searching for the next hot product you will be looking for a chiropractor.

Working from home is an attractive idea that millions of people dream of but when you turn your dream into reality make sure that along with building your business make sure you take the time to perform daily maintenance on yourself.
